Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Tech in Yoruba (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Tech in Yoruba website and learning portal. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our services. By using the Site, you consent to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

We may collect:

  • Account information: name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and any profile details you provide.
  • Learning and enrollment data: courses and cohorts you enroll in, attendance at sessions, progress, and results.
  • Session and meeting data: when instructors use integrated meeting tools (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams), we store the meeting join link, meeting ID, and passcode so students can access sessions. We do not record or store the actual video/audio of meetings unless you use a separate recording feature and we explicitly support it.
  • OAuth tokens (instructors only): if you connect a meeting account (Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams), we receive and store access and refresh tokens from that provider so we can create meetings on your behalf. We do not share these tokens with third parties.
  • Usage and technical data: log data (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages visited), and cookies or similar technologies as described below.
  • Communications: messages you send to us (e.g. support or contact forms).

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • Enroll you in courses and cohorts and manage your participation.
  • Display session times and meeting links (including those created via Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams) so you can join live sessions.
  • For instructors: create meetings via connected meeting accounts when you choose “create meeting automatically” and store the resulting links and related details.
  • Send you service-related messages (e.g. session reminders, course updates) where we have a lawful basis to do so.
  • Improve the Site, fix errors, and analyse usage (including in aggregated form).
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and the safety of users.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. How we store and protect your information

  • Your data is stored on servers we control or use under contract. We use technical and organisational measures (e.g. access controls, encryption in transit) to protect your data.
  • OAuth tokens and meeting details are stored in our database and used only by our application. We do not log token values or expose them to the browser or third parties.
  • We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with law, or resolve disputes.

5. Sharing your information

We may share your information:

  • With service providers that help us operate the Site (e.g. hosting, email). They are required to use the data only for the purposes we specify.
  • With meeting providers (instructors only): when you connect Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, we send requests to those providers to create meetings. Their use of data is governed by their privacy policies.
  • When required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
  • With your consent or at your direction (e.g. if you ask us to share something with a third party).

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We may use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand how the Site is used. You can adjust your browser settings to limit or block cookies; some features may not work fully if you disable them.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct or update your data.
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal or contractual retention).
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Data portability (where applicable).
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on it.
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.

8. Children

The Site is not directed at children under the age required in their country for consent (e.g. 13 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal data from such children. If you believe we have done so, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Third‑party links and services

The Site may link to third‑party sites or use third‑party services (e.g. Zoom, Google, Microsoft). We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read their privacy policies when you use their services.

10. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. We take steps to ensure it is protected in line with this policy and applicable law.

11. Changes to this policy
