Being recognized by a global media powerhouse like the BBC is a testament to the incredible work our students, instructors, and community members put in every single day to democratize tech education in Africa.
Breaking Language Barriers in Tech
The core focus of the interview centered around TIYC’s foundational mission: making high-value digital skills accessible by breaking down language barriers. During the session, we discussed how teaching complex technical concepts in our indigenous language unlocks deeper creativity, faster comprehension, and sustainable innovation for thousands of learners who might otherwise be gatekept by English proficiency.
Rewriting the Narrative that Tech is Not ‘Yahoo’
In addition to discussing localized education, the interview tackled a critical social stereotype head-on. We addressed the misconception that often associates tech with cybercrime (‘Yahoo-Yahoo’) in Nigeria.
Our founder emphasized that true technology is entirely distinct from cybercrime. The conversation mapped out the vast, legitimate, and highly rewarding career paths available within the global tech ecosystem, highlighting how young Africans can build sustainable wealth completely within the boundaries of the law and professional ethics.
